Time to Rise?

This past winter seemed especially dark. Spiritually dark because I attended more wakes and funerals than I ever have, one of them tragic because she was so loved and died much too young. But it also felt dark in terms of sunlight. Days ended early, as they typically do during winter months, but it seemed light was there and faded to black in a profoundly short time—like dusk began and ended within seconds. I don’t remember feeling that way in the past.

But since Daylight Saving Time, when we sprang the clocks ahead an hour, everyone around me has been complaining about how tired they feel, yet I’ve been energized because, for me, spring means longer days and increased sunlight, which lifts my spirits and helps guide me down a path filled with creative and positive thoughts.

Spring has symbolic and real life meanings

The symbolic and religious meaning of spring is a time of rebirth, renewal, and new beginnings. In life, it’s when plants that went dormant during frigid weather, begin to grow again. And don’t we all marvel when the crocuses, hyacinths, and lilies pop their bright green heads out of the ground? Pollen starts to fill the air. Animals, from bears to chipmunks, come out of hibernation. And then we start to hear mating calls as animals procreate to give birth during warmer months when there is an abundant supply of food and a much better chance of survival. Spring is when we get a chance to nurture seedlings, giving them a chance to flourish, bloom, and deliver abundance into our lives. And it doesn’t have to be about just flowers, fruits, and vegetables. It can be about personal growth too.

Spring is when we lay down seeds for transformation, growth, and change.

Everything about the word spring, whether used as a noun or verb, references new beginnings and momentum. As a verb, it means to originate or arise from, or to move suddenly or rapidly upward or forward. As a noun, it refers to the season between winter and summer with increasingly warmer weather, wetter and longer days, and the growth of plants and flowers; Springs are devices that exert tension or absorb movement; And a spring is also a water source that originates from an underground aquifer and naturally flows upward to the surface. Is your energy flowing? Could it be your time to rise? Is there something you want to overcome, a situation you need to rise above, or a goal you feel compelled to achieve?

Spring is the perfect time to move onward and upward.

Our bodies are designed for it because increased sunlight boosts serotonin and that helps improve mood and focus. Is there something deep inside that you’d like to nurture and grow? Think about what would make you happier. More fulfilled. More successful. Incubate that idea. Nourish it. Offer it sunlight. And watch it bloom.

Until next time,
